Automation Design Engineer


  • Manages specification, design and commissioning of control system hardware and software on new equipment or
  • existing manufacturing lines.
  • Specification, design, verification and validation of machine safety and related control systems.
  • Manage and progress suppliers against a project timeline (controls and automation).
  • Oversee and plan onsite installations and manage external contractors (controls and automation).
  • Contribute to the compilation of technical construction files required for CE / UKCA marking.
  • Modify machine control systems and update associated PLC, HMI, Robot programs and electrical/fluid drawings.

About You:

You will be an innovative, self‐motivated and pro‐active Design Engineer, with a good understanding of automation, electrical and fluid power systems. You’ll be degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering discipline, with 3 years proven ability in a similar type role and experience in managing projects.

You will have experience of designing, building and programming control systems and automation equipment, utilising SolidWorks Electrical, Omron C & N series controllers and/or Siemens S7 series controllers. You will also have a good understanding of industrial networking including EtherCat, Ethernet/IP and Profinet. A working knowledge of machine functional safety and supporting directives and standards is required. You must also be committed to ongoing continuous professional and personal development, keeping update on technical and professional expertise.
